Countdown to Academy Awards with Oscar Nominee Inspired Cocktails!

Oscar Nominations

After spending six years living within walking distance of the Kodak theatre, the Oscars have become a tradition that I celebrate as religiously as any Hallmark holiday.  And this year I am especially excited because I actually enjoyed the majority of the movies I have seen that are nominated!  So of course I have been fussing about trying to plan the perfect menu for the occasion and I thought what better way than to have a smorgasbord of fun cocktails that represent all of my favorite films!

Here are some Oscar inspired drinks for you to try at home this Sunday evening!

007 Vodka Martini (Dirty because I think this Bond deserves it;)

3 parts vodka – I’ve been loving 360 Vodka because it tastes great and is eco-friendly!

1 part dry vermouth

1 part olive juice (I use extra dirty mix that is on the cloudier side)

3 blue cheese stuffed olives

Directions – Combine all ingredients except for olives in martini shaker with ice.  Shake vigorously, then pour through strainer into martini glass and garnish with olives on toothpick.  My all time favorite drink!

Les Miserables Kir Royale (Champagne is necessary for this one because it’s got my vote for best pic;)

1 part creme de cassis

5 parts champagne – try using organic champagne like the one made by Korbel!

Directions – Pour creme de cassis in flute first and then add champagne.  Bonne sante et bonne chance!

Django Unchained Old Fashioned (more than one of this drink would make anyone unchained, except maybe Don Draper;)

Zero Dark Thirty Dark and Stormy (this rum cocktail makes even the bleak deserts of the middle east seem tropical;)

2 oz. dark rum (Goslings Black Seal Rum is the classic choice)

3 oz. ginger beer (or Coke Zero if you really want to go “Zero” Dark Thirty;)

Also, be sure to check out the eco-friendly dress donned by the Bond girl Naomie Harris which won the award for Red Carpet Green Dress!

Hope you enjoy this Oscar Sunday as much as I will!

Vanessa;)
