Eco-Celebs Dominate Red Carpet at 2013 Golden Globes

This years top contenders for the Golden Globe Awards are a veritable who’s who of eco-activist-actors.  Here are a few of my favorite picks for both their stunning performances and their dedication to being stewards of the environment.

Anne Hathaway

My favorite actress has done it again.  Just when I thought she couldn’t get any better she did.  I was speechless during her “I dreamed a dream” scene as Fantine in Les Mis and could only utter one word to my husband after she finished her last line, “wow.”  And after doing a little research on this special lady, I found out she is committed to a cruelty-free lifestyle of being vegan.  This gorgeous girl went so far as to have vegan shoes made to be used on set as Fantine, wore vegan bondage boots on the red carpet while promoting Les Mis and had a vegan eco-friendly wedding to her hubby Adam Shulman!  She’s got my vote!

Hugh Jackman

Possibly Hollywood’s perfect man who not only is the epitome of a hunk but has a set of pipes to match, Hugh Jackman is not only going green but is literally growing green!  The green space in Manhattan that is.  That’s right, he and his wife have hosted a party for the Friends of Hudson River Park a non-profit organization that is working to raise $200 million to increase the size of the park from 59th Street to the Battery.  His masterful performance as Jean Valjean brought tears to my eyes and music to my heart.  He had my vote at “Look Down!”

Alec Baldwin

A notorious Hollywood environmentalist, Alec has a long list of causes he supports which makes him even more attractive.  From narrating the BBC series Frozen Planet to slamming US Senators that have personal ties to the oil industry to standing up against fracking in the state of New York, he has fought hard to earn his eco-hero status.  He has even addressed the cruelty of horse drawn carriages and his long time support of PETA earned him the gift of a rescued bull named after him as a wedding gift.  His work as Jack Donaghy has kept me lizzing for years and I will be sorry to see his role come to an end.  Alec has won my vote on every level!

Jessica Chastain

Nominated as PETAs “Sexiest Vegetarian,” Jessica Chastain has been a vegetarian for 15 years and a vegan for an additional five.  She does not believe in cruelty and strives to live her life where she doesn’t inflict harm on any living creature.  Her performance for “Zero Dark Thirty” has earned her nomination and although I have not yet seen the movie, I am very excited to do so!

Woody Harrelson

The other “Sexiest Vegetarian” award given by PETA went to Woody who has long been an eco-activist.  Having been a vegan for almost 25 years, he says the plant based diet speaks for itself as he has far more energy than most people he knows that eat meat.  Recently he is campaigning to save forests by using sustainable sources such as wheat paper.  He is nominated for his role in “Game Change” where he lived onset in his sustainable bus, Mothership, with features including solar panels and cork floors.  Way to go Woody!

Best of luck to all our nominees!!!
